Job Description

WHAT’S THE JOB? FARM OPERATIONS MANAGER – POULTRY (LAYERS) 96,000 Flock rising to 128,000

THE ROLE: To ensure the poultry enterprise is running as efficiently as possible whilst adhering to all organisational procedures efficiently. You will be managing farm staff when required and will work to the highest standards to provide the best levels of poultry welfare to the livestock in your care.

  • Setting up units for birds and carrying out daily checks on the housing and birds
  • General bird management – Ventilation, feeding, vaccinating etc
  • Completing daily checklists and all relevant paperwork
  • Good understanding of bird welfare issues – desirable
  • Willingness to learn and embrace high welfare standards
  • Manage the farm to ensure that bird welfare is never compromised
  • Manage and monitor ventilation, heating, feed, water, litter and lighting within the agreed standards, ensuring the highest quality conditions are provided for the birds
  • Responsible for day to day management of farm Employees, including allocation of work to ensure smooth running of farm
  • Manage and control Contractors on site ensuring work is carried out to the required specification and quality
  • Ensure weekly paperwork is accurately recorded and sent on time to the relevant Department
  • Cover the alarm as required ensuring it is operational and any faults rectified immediately
  • Communicate with Area Manager ensuring relevant information is provided promptly and accurately
  • Ensure site security is maintained at all times, while reporting any issues
  • Ensure site is maintained in clean, tidy and presentable manner
  • Ensure Company Health & Safety Policy is adhered to at all times
  • Monitor and report sickness and employee issues when they happen, and ensure appropriate cover is in place
  • Alert the board when problems on farm are identified
  • Responsible for accurate completion of Employee timesheets, including on time submission
  • Undertake any other duties as required to fulfil the needs of the position
  • Attend training courses which are determined as appropriate by the Company
  • You will have proven management experience gained within the poultry egg industry.
  • You will be focused on results and keen to contribute towards a positive and successful team
  • Have a keen attention to detail for Health and Safety, Quality Control, Animal Welfare and Biosecurity
  • Highly motivated with a ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness and enthusiasm to take on new challenges.
  • Along with a flexible approach to getting the job done
  • Possess a proven record of achieving and exceeding targets
  • Initiative and influencing skills with a critically evaluating and questioning approach
  • Sound stock management background
  • Ability to manage staff
  • Organised and detailed approach to duties
  • Ability to prioritise duties / tasks
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative 

Overseeing Operations of the various facets of the group’s business the Operations Manager will be working towards the title of Operations Director through hard work, determination and commitment to the business. Growing alongside the current Managing Director the Operations Manager will be supporting and steering the business in its healthy expansion and diversification plans, a truly once in a lifetime opportunity for the right person. The Operations Manager will be visible and approachable both internally and externally and will act in a strong ambassadorial manner in always representing the Company and its values.
