Job Description

WHAT’S THE JOB? INTERIM MANAGER – POULTRY (LAYERS) 128,000 Flock (4-6 months)

WHO’S THE EMPLOYER? A prestigious and family-owned Farming and Renewables business with other incorporated entrepreneurial ventures. Having built the group of businesses up over the years the board are now seeking to create Senior Management roles within the Egg Production Business and in the meantime would like an Interim Manager to deal with the next 6 months busy period.

WHAT’S THE INDUSTRY? Poultry/Egg production

HOW WILL I BE REWARDED? Commensurate with experience and ability + vehicle + house

WHAT’S THE LOCATION? Dumfries, Scotland

WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE ROLE? Overseeing and planning the layer business to ensure smooth operation of the units through depletion, clean down and repopulation. Day to day management of staff and resources to include a thorough use of software to ensure all audits and processes are adhered to and schedules met. There will be a requirement to be hands on in parts of the process and times of the day and the week as and when the need arises, however this should be minimal with good management of the current resources.

WHAT QUALITIES DO I NEED? 

  • You’re a successful manager having achieved career progression through at least 3-5 years on merit and sustainable success within an agricultural business which preferably incorporates a poultry unit of a commercial size
  • You have drive and energy to succeed at the highest level, showing you are adaptable
  • You’ll maybe have a thorough knowledge of poultry farming and understand the challenges, seasonal flexibility and diverse working conditions of a busy commercial enterprise 
  • A successful background in team leadership is a key requirement – not only can you effectively manage and delegate to your team day to day, but you can also identify talent, inspire and develop those around you as well as getting involved as and when required yourself, leading by example
  • A confident and articulate communicator, you’ll possess a well-developed range of interpersonal and relationship building skills, along with IT skills including MS Office
  • Empowered and confident, you can make sound business decisions (and difficult decisions) in the absence of the MD when required
  • You will be a graduate with an Agricultural or Management qualification as well as an agricultural background
