WHAT’S THE JOB? FINANCE DIRECTOR

WHO’S THE EMPLOYER? One of Scotland’s longest serving agricultural machinery retail businesses, serving the farming community for many decades, this profitable multi-branch organisation has an excellent portfolio of premium brand equipment franchises and continues to maintain a very strong local presence and market share. The Company’s core customer base comprises farmers, agricultural and forestry contractors, and a wide variety of businesses in the construction sector.

WHERE IS THE ROLE LOCATED? South-West Scotland

TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE ROLE? A key member of the Company’s senior management team, this position will input directly into performance and strategy, structure and people. You will be responsible for the strategic financial management of the business, ensuring the Company delivers results in line with turnover growth, bottom line, financial exposure, credit risk, cashflow management, staff retention and other KPIs, with full P&L accountability. The position is based at the Company’s headquarters, with occasional travel to other branches. This excellent, varied role offers the opportunity to become a key stakeholder in a highly secure and growing business.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS, QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?

  • You’ll have a successful financial management background – at least 6 years in a senior leadership position – with significant experience in managing and driving performance and growth within a commercial organisation
  • Your track record should clearly demonstrate your ability to deliver on financial and commercial objectives, based on secure forecasting, sound P&L management and intelligent industry data analysis
  • A strong empathy with agriculture is essential, in order to demonstrate a sound understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by the Company’s farming customer base at a time of significant industry change
  • Your communication and interpersonal skills will be well developed, capable of undertaking tough negotiations when required, engaging positively with individuals at all levels and knowing when to listen
  • Experience in HR management is essential, particularly if enhanced by CIPD qualifications, and you should be up to speed with employment legislation, experienced in developing career paths as well as restructuring and terminating employment
  • Capable of strategic thinking, you will have a thorough understanding of the potential effects of economic or political changes to the Company’s customer base sectors and be able to bring about proactive business adjustments as necessary
  • A degree-level education in Accounting and Finance or related subject or FCCA qualification is required, as well as an excellent standard of IT literacy and system management expertise, including use and development of accounting and business management systems along with extensive experience in MS Office
  • You will be familiar with external stakeholder engagement – accountants, auditors and tax specialists, banking and finance professionals, government departments, local authorities
  • Experience in sustainability, CSR / ESG metrics would be an advantage
  • A full UK driving licence is required, and you’ll reside in or be prepared to relocate to South-West Scotland
