WHAT’S THE JOB? FIELD ASSESSOR – Laying Hens –Opportunities Nationally

WHO’S THE EMPLOYER? An industry shaping organisation focused on prioritising animal health and care from farm to fork, endorsing and promoting the best standards of animal welfare for UK farming.

WHAT’S THE INDUSTRY? Livestock (Pigs and poultry with general livestock)  

HOW WILL I BE REWARDED? This home and field-based role is within a supportive regional team, rewarded with a competitive salary + company-car (for work and personal use) + healthcare scheme + generous pension contributions. IT equipment, phone and work clothing are also provided.

WHERE IS THE ROLE LOCATED? There will be roles open in main production regions 

TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE ROLE? In this exciting and varied role you will help to set animal welfare standards and improve livestock production across the UK. You will visit RSPCA Assured farms, and any new applicants to the scheme to assess the production systems and help farmers to meet RSPCA welfare standards. You will submit farm reports to support membership of the RSPCA Assured scheme. This is a role that is suited to someone who has a keen attention to detail and is comfortable in a practical outdoor farm environment.

You will arrange  and plan your own workload to fit with your farmers, with occasional team activities and scheme promotional events.

WHAT QUALITIES DO I NEED?

  • You should share the animal welfare values and ethics of the RSPCA Assured scheme
  • The ability to work independently and on your own initiative, organising your work-routine, with strong organising and recording skills
  • A keen attention to detail, with first-rate communication skills at all levels
  • An agricultural qualification (NVQ level 3 or higher)
  • Two years at least of practical experience of laying hen or similar production systems particularly in commercial farming operations
  • GCSE English and Math or similar qualifications
  • An availability to travel extensively within your region with a current full driving licence.
  • A working knowledge of RSPCA Assured scheme and other farm assurance schemes is desirable
